Introduction

The site at Kinlochbervie was discovered in 1997 by RAF Lossiemouth SAC led by Roy Hemmings, and was subject of an investigation in 2001 by the ADU and Time Team. This programme recommended further investigation, and asked a number of questions including:

  • Is there a shipwreck, part of a shipwreck, or are materials coming from elsewhere?
  • What is the stability of the assemblage?

Phil Robertson (NAS Scotland) undertook further archaeological investigation in 2002 with a professional team plus the original RAF SAC members. Joanne Cook and myself were included in the team to develop and deploy a monitoring system that could help answer these questions.
